Project Checkpoint

For my project, I am doing a powerpoint presentation on the lifestyle in the 1930's. So far I have some things from this topic researched, but I have a lot more to do. I may have to work before and after school on my powerpoint to get the project done, because I don't have powerpoint on my computer. I may also just download into my computer, to make it a whole lot easier.
So far there aren't any setbacks or problems with my project other than that I need to start working on the powerpoint. I will definitely have a lot of the research done soon. I hope I don't have any trouble getting the powerpoint on the blog:]

Romeo and Juliet: Video Post

This video is from the movie, Slumdog Millionaire. It relates to Romeo and Juliet because the movie is about two lovers, Jamal and Latika, who struggle to find each other again after being seperated several times from their childhood. Jamal, who is from the slums of Mumbai, enters a popular tv show, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, to find his lost love, Latika. In the end, he finds her through the show, and live happily together. I chose this video because I thought the song was very nice, and I loved the movie:]

Romeo and Juliet: Act 2

What I thought was interesting in Act Two was the scene with Romeo and Juliet talking to each other on Juliet's balcony. It seemed a little wierd because they were just talking with each other without even knowing. They soon figured out and started talking to each other about how much they love each other. Soon they start talking about marraige because they love each other so much and can't seem to seperate. Romeo was willing to give up his name and his families name for Juliet. This event would definitely affect their future because they agreed to get married.
I would've acted differently if I were Juliet. I would never agree to marry a person who I have just met a day ago. This event leads me to foreshadow some major thing that will end horribly wrong, like their marraige. I actually have been in a similar situation like this, but I shall not mention it :]

Characters in Romeo and Juliet

In Romeo and Juliet, based on Act One, I can easily tell what type of person the Nurse is. She is a lot like a mother to Juliet than Lady Capulet, because Juliet seems more fond of the Nurse than her own mother. Although the Nurse takes good care of Juliet and even nursed her since she was a baby, she doesn't really act like a nurse should in a high classed family like the Capulets. I expected the Nurse to be a round figured, old aged woman wearing dirty clothes like most caretakers, maids, or servants would look like in the old days. However the Nurse turned out to be quite the opposite. Instead she's very talkative, ignorant and doesn't show that much respect for the people there, like Lady Capulet. I don't think I would particulary want to meet the Nurse, because she just seems so obnoxiously loud.
I don't really know anyone in particular like the Nurse, but I'm sure there are a lot of nurses and caretakers today that are like the Nurse in Romeo and Juliet. They would all be loud and wouldn't really show much respect.

Romeo and Juliet: Premonitions

There were many many premonitions I had that unfortunately came true. The one that I remember the most was when my whole entire family(which here means my 3 aunts, uncles, 4 cousins, 2 siblings, parents, and a bunch of other relatives, in India)went on a trip to visit my other relatives near a small village for this huge event. Because there was no easy road to the area, we had to, unfortunately walk the whole 10-12 mile there. My premonition was that we would eventually get lost and not make it there in time before dark. I started walking ahead of everyone else with my other little cousins, siblings, and friends. I was like 10 yrs. old, so this was like super exciting for me. But soon we were all pretty much exhausted. Not long after that(like 3 hours later), we had no idea where we were. I was totally freaked out because it was getting dark, and we couldn't find our parents or anyone else. Finally we made it to a busstop, met some nice people , and decided to wait there until someone we knew came along. Not too long after that, my family did show up and we did make it safely(at like 10 o'clock!) to our destination with the help of the nice people we met at the busstop. So, even though the trip wasn't so bad, my premonition did come true, and we did get lost. To prevent this, I could've stayed put with the group and not take off with a bunch of little kids in a deserted place like that.
The food there was fantastic, so it was definitlely worth going:]

Shakespearean Stories

Although there are many movies that fit the description of mistaken identities, the one movie I just watched recently is Tootsie. Micheal Dorsey(Dustin Hoffman) is an unemployed actor who searches for a new job. To do this he dresses up as a woman, Dorothy Michaels, and gets the role in a drama show. Soon he becomes an inspiration to all women and becomes famous throughout the whole city. Along the way, Michael falls in love with a female co-star, while the co-star's father falls in love with him, his female friend/lover, and also a male co-star who tries to attract him(Dorothy).
I think this movie fits the criteria of mistaken identities very well because Michael Dorsey finds himself caught in a love triangle as an unemployed actor and Dorothy Michaels. Although Shakespeare had a lot of influence in modern cinema, I don't think the creators of the movie were influenced by him so much. Twelfth Night is a Shakespearean play that is most similar to this movie because of the mistaken identities.

I thought watching Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream was a very good way to understand the language in it. Although I understood the story plot very well, it was very difficult at times to understand what the characters were saying. By the end of the movie, I thought I had a pretty good undertanding of Shakepeare's style of writing and his plots. All of Shakespeare's works are fascinating to me. In the 7th grade, I did a report on William Shakespeare and even dressed up as him in class. This helped me better understand Shakepeare and how his life influenced his plays and other writings. I hope to read more of his books and learn the language a little.
I'm excited to read Romeo and Juliet in class next week. It will be interesting to see who gets the role as Romeo and Juliet. I know the story well enough to understand the play when we read it. There are many plays and stories that are similar to Romeo and Juliet. Westside Story is a good example of this. I think I will enjoy reading the play very much. I'm sure I'll enjoy the next two months very much:]

Freewrite/Insight: Animal Farm

There are many things I like about Animal Farm so far. I like how the author wrote the book based on the Russian Revolution. This would help me learn more about the events that had happened during this time, and the effects and causes of it. It makes me wonder what the communists during the Russian Revolution had done to fight for their justice. I also think it's interesting how the author gives certain animals certain human characteristics and thoughts about the humans. It makes the story much more interesting to read and to easily understand what had really happened in the Revolution.
I'm looking forward to finishing the book to see what is going to happen to the pigs, especially Napolean and his power. I think the Napolean's power will soon end because of the animals in Animal Farm.
